Blanton has appeared in the postseason in five seasons

Blanton is a nine-year veteran who became the latest victim of the Phillies’ fire sale. That included Victorino and Hunter Pence, who was dealt to the Giants.

“It was a little bit of a shock, especially since the Trade Deadline had passed,” Blanton told Philadelphia reporters. “But when you’re in trade rumors, you’ve got to be ready to do whatever. And I was happy if I stayed. At the same time, it will be a new thing, a new adventure to go. And that’s always fun.”

Blanton has appeared in the postseason in five seasons and was part of the Phillies’ World Series championship team of 2008.

“When we got him from Oakland, we were in contention and he shored up that starting rotation for us and we ended up winning the World Series,” Victorino said. “That is the kind of guy you are going to get and that’s the kind of guy you want to pitch the second half of the season. He’s capable of being that guy that is going to help you get into the postseason and pitch well into the postseason.”

Gee had an extra day of rest before Saturday’s start

Gee had an extra day of rest before Saturday’s start, something that hasn’t always been beneficial. He was 1-5 with a 5.87 ERA this season with more than normal rest. The right-hander produced one of his best starts of the year Saturday, though. His previous longest had been 7 1-3 innings, and he tied a season-low with only one earned run.

“I think I’ve pitched better than my record would show,” Gee said. “I feel like I’m pitching better this season.”

Last year, Gee won eight of his first nine decisions before finishing 13-6. This season, he’s demonstrating the folly of relying on a pitcher’s record to determine his quality, getting more strikeouts, with far fewer walks.

Morway was hired by the Pacers in 1999

David Morway resigned Tuesday as general manager of the Indiana Pacers amid reports that Larry Bird is on the way out, too.

Morway was hired by the Pacers in 1999 and had been GM since 2008. The Indianapolis Star reported Tuesday (http://goo.gl/uqp0u ) that Bird is expected to leave the Pacers, citing an unidentified person with direct knowledge of the situation. The Pacers and owner Herb Simon declined comment.

“I think change is great. I really do. New ideas, new creativity, new vision and new energy — I think all of that is important for a franchise,” Morway said. “However Mr. Simon decides to do this, I think is going to be good for the franchise. I’m sure he’ll make a good decision because he’s a terrific owner.”

Dwyane Wade has become one of the game’s more curious spectacles

Dwyane Wade has become one of the game’s more curious spectacles — falling down on every drive, repackaging the entire Vince Carter verbal flop soundtrack, refusing to sprint back on defense when he doesn’t get a call, etc. We hope it’s just a phase.

But there are games when Russell Westbrook is just as shamelessly undisciplined and wildly inconsistent, though we’re seeing signs of maturity of late. Exhibit A: He shot .378 against the Spurs, and was especially horrid in Games 4 and 5, but when it was time to put the Spurs out of their misery, he looked like a guy comfortable with being a point guard again.

But they outrebounded the Clippers in the first half

Williams shot a three-pointer that went in and out, leaving the Clippers down, 91-90.

Griffin fouled Channing Frye as they went for the rebound, and Frye made two free throws for the final margin with 2.0 seconds left.

Neither team played with passion in the early going. Even though the Suns shot just 38.6% from the field in the first half, they held a 46-45 lead at halftime.

The Suns just 28.6% of their three-point attempts (four-for-14) from the field in the first half.

But they outrebounded the Clippers in the first half, 29-24. The Suns had 11 offensive rebounds, giving them second-chance opportunities.
